The Road to Now: How I Got Here… What’s Your Story?

I was sitting in my car driving back from DC last week, the third leg of this fitness club shoot behind me, thinking about the last 10 years of my career and streaming together the line of jobs/experiences that have lead me to this point.  Well, let’s be honest, it was a “How the hell did I get here?” moment, which I’m sure we all have from time to time.  Seriously though, how is it that little old me from Scarboro (a Toronto suburb), now living in one of the greatest cities in the world, gets chosen for a job that is taking me around the country?

What happened to that painfully shy dancer who didn’t want to admit that she was uncomfortable to be left alone with a passport customer to wait those 10 minutes for the film to develop and talk about the weather?  Open my mouth and talk about, well, nothing?  Geeze…

I could be flip and say something boring like “dedication, perseverance, hard work and lots of mistakes”… too much of that obvious garbage floating around on Social Media these days.  Talent? Communication skills?  A series of small and large “tipping points”?  One job leads into another and another… blah blah blah…

So what happened?  I still don’t really know.  I went to college.  I graduated (turned out at the top of my class… how did that happen??) I met a man called Dave.  We moved.  We moved again.  We moved again to NYC.  I did a show. I shot some stuff… and more stuff… and more and more and more…

I thought I’d look back at some of my work to see if I could get an idea, here are a few of my favorites.  In the meantime, what’s your story? How did you get to where you are?  Don’t know either?

In the words of my Canadian friends.. “yah, eh?”
